Summit Charter Academy Mathew is a K-6 elementary school located in Porterville, California. Summit Charter Academy Mathew is part of the Burton School District, however it is the only 90/10 dual-immersion school in the Porterville area. Students that enter kindergarten receive 90% of their instruction in Spanish. The iPad that we have been able to provide for our students have given the teachers the opportunity to enhance their instruction. Students are able to use the iPad to create videos, collaborate with one another, practice their presentation skills and do so many other tasks that they previously were not able to do. We have seen a tremendous increase in their academic language use. Students feel more comfortable recording each other and expressing their thoughts when they know they are able to go back and edit before presenting to their peers.
During the 2014-15 school year, Summit Charter Academy Mathew had an average enrollment of 443 students. In the past few years we have grown over 200 students and continue to have a tremendous waiting list. We have had an amazing response from the community. Parents want their children to be part of the dual-immersion program that is utilizing iPad to enhance the classroom instruction daily.
